Making your life easier

Why Go Green?
Health
The EPA estimates that the air quality inside our homes is 2-5 times more toxic than the air outside. In some places, it is up to 50 times more toxic than outdoor air.
  • According to the Healthy Schools Network, 60% of school kids are at elevated risk of asthma due to poor indoor air quality.
  • Cancer increased in children by 21% between 1975-1998.
  • Women who work in the home have a 54% higher chance of developing cancer than women who work outside the home (National Cancer Institute, 1991).
  • Employees who work in settings with poor air quality report headaches, depression, fatigue, and other illnesses.

Over 150 chemicals found in common household cleaners are directly responsible for increases in cancers, allergies, psychological disorders, and birth defects (Consumer Product Association). In the workplace, many paints, cleaning supplies, and carpet contribute to these illnesses. Fortunately, there is something we can all do about it: clean green! Visit Seventh Generation's website for quick tips on green cleaning.

Cost
As the green cleaning market develops, prices are decreasing. Additionally, most household cleaners can be made using ingredients you can purchase in a grocery store: baking soda, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, lemons, and essential oils. Visit
green living ideas for recipes and additional information. Decreased prices in natural cleaners allow us at green sweep to reduce your cleaning bill.

The Environment
Most cleaners used in homes and in commercial settings contain pollutants that have seriously adverse
effects on the environment. These chemicals are often poured down drains, circulated through building ventilation systems, or disposed of outdoors. Possible negative impacts of products include:

  • Air and water pollution
  • Bioaccumulation of toxic substances in plants and animals, affecting reproductive ability and longevity
  • Ozone depletion
